a tropical retreat led by Zuza, with Jovinna Chan – a week of wonder at the meeting point of jungle and sea
At Blue Spirit Costa Rica, in one of only five Blue Zones on the planet. A Blue Zone is an area where people report the highest levels of well-being – good omen! We have been to Blue Spirit multiple times and always feel held, nourished, and taken care of there.
The retreat center is located 100 meters from a 3 mile white sand beach - walkable, swimmable, and protected from development due to its proximity to a turtle nesting refuge.
Your all inclusive fee depends on the type of room you choose and covers tuition,
accommodations, and three delicious meals a day, including all the
papaya you can eat, yum! It does not cover your travel expenses, massages, new bikini, raw cocoa smoothies or other treats sold at the bar.
Surfing, horseback riding, and other excursions are available at extra cost.
If you’d like to invite a friend who'd rather not take the workshop (we understand...), email us for details.
We meet Sunday morning through Friday night. Saturdays are travel days.
Morning Yoga :: 7:15am-8:30am
Morning :: 10:00am to 12:45pm (except Sunday 10:30-12:45)
Evening :: 8:00pm to 9:30pm (except Wednesday, afternoon & evening off)

Here's what I know:
My cells speak to me in a secret language.
My body adores breath and benevolence.
All hearts rest in the same Great Heart.
Let’s take a winter break together where sweet air & warm ocean water kiss the skin, offering playful rest for body, heart and soul.
With movement sessions offered daily on a spacious schedule – to dance wildly and luxuriate in micro-movements, to listen inside and express what moves us – we will create together a safe space for relaxation, connection, and ease.
Jovinna will offer gentle morning yoga to help wake us up. She is a Kripalu yoga teacher and trainer, certified instructor of Soul Motion and LetYourYogaDance, world traveler, co-founder of Shakti Initiation School and an all around delightful human being. Originally from Singapore, she lives in Big Sur, California and has assisted at the annual winter holiday Esalen retreat with Scott & Zuza for the past decade. See her website.
We will move and be moved, speak from the heart, laugh from the belly, and – last not least – take frequent naps. Naps are essential to awakening.
When not napping, you can walk the whole three miles of the gorgeous white sand beach, kayak on the river, stand up and paddle, surf, take chillaxation classes with the monkeys, receive a world class massage, snack at the health bar, or just hang out by the saltwater infinity pool and stare into space. Our very favorite is the daily sunset swim.
All of the above entirely optional – and we mean it.
In this time of great change, uncertainty and possibility, let's put ourselves in places that awaken and nurture our ability to relax so we can be alive in a world that needs us. Zuza and Scott are famous for creating such places.
